The Indian stock market is called NIFTY, which stands for National Stock Exchange. The NIFTY 50 Index is an independent market-weighted stock index consisting of the 50 most traded stocks on the National Stock Exchange of India. The NIFTY 50 Index represents approximately 50% of the publicly adjusted market value of all stocks traded on the NSE. It excludes publicly traded fixed capital markets, co-sponsors and state companies. The NIFTY 50 Index is a volatility-weighted stock index with an initial level of 1000 since December 31, 1986.
Nifty stands for National Finance Index, which tracks 50 stocks in India. Sensex is a broad index of Indian stocks. It tracks the prices of the top 30 companies on the Bombay Stock Exchange. Both are good indicators of the Indian economy as a whole.
